Lazy Ways to Celebrate the Summer Solstice
The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year and the official beginning of summer! Across many cultures and traditions, it's a time of celebration for abundance and vitality. It’s a sabbot where we practice gratitude for all that has been so far this year. This day is the moment when the sun reaches its peak before the days slowly begin to shorten once again (I know, so sad to think about lol).
While some people celebrate with elaborate rituals, feasts, or gatherings, I know that’s not always feasable for the modern person. And as much as those elaborate celebrations are fun and special, there’s also something beautiful about keeping things simple.
Here’s your reminder that you don't need a perfectly curated altar or an entire day dedicated to ritual work. In fact, some of the most meaningful ways to honor the Summer Solstice can be woven naturally into your day.
Dress Like the Sun
One of the easiest ways to connect with the energy of the season is through what you wear.
Think gold jewelry, floral patterns, breezy natural fabrics, or warm sunset-inspired colors like yellow, orange, gold, and red. You might even carry a crystal like citrine, amber or sunstone as a reminder of the sun's warmth and vitality.
Your outfit or accessories don’t need to be perfect, there’s power in simple intentions!
Light a Candle
Fire has long been associated with the Summer Solstice, representing the power and vitality of the sun.
Lighting a candle can become a simple yet meaningful ritual. It doesn't matter whether it's a birthday candle, a tealight, or a pillar candle. The ritual is in the intention, not the supplies.
As the flame burns, spend a few moments reflecting on what is currently thriving in your life. What deserves more of your attention? What do you hope to nurture during the months ahead?
Spend Time in the Sun
Sometimes the most obvious ritual is also the most powerful.
The Summer Solstice celebrates the sun itself, so consider spending a few quiet moments outdoors. Take a walk, sit in the grass, enjoy your morning coffee on the porch, or simply pause long enough to feel the sunlight on your skin.
Allow yourself to slow down and appreciate the warmth, light, and vitality that surrounds you.
Make Solar Water
Solar water is a simple practice that many people enjoy incorporating into their seasonal celebrations.
Place a glass or jar of water in direct sunlight for a few hours while setting the intention that it is being infused with the energy of the sun.
Later, you can use the water however feels meaningful to you. Some people use it in ritual baths, to water plants, to cleanse spiritual tools, or to drink mindfully as a reminder of the season's energy.
Bring Home Fresh Flowers
Flowers are one of summer's greatest gifts!
Whether they're freshly picked wildflowers, a bouquet from the farmers market, sunflowers from the grocery store, or daisies from a flower shop, bringing flowers into your home is a simple way to honor the beauty and abundance of the season.
Place them on your kitchen table, desk, altar, or windowsill and allow them to serve as a reminder of nature's fullness and beauty :)
Celebrate What Has Bloomed
The Summer Solstice is often associated with growth and manifestation, but it’s also a time to acknowledge how far you've already come.
Take a few moments to reflect on the first half of the year.
What has blossomed in your life since winter?
What are you proud of?
What blessings have appeared that you may have overlooked?
Before focusing on what comes next, allow yourself to appreciate what has already grown.
