Amethyst Physical Properties

Did you know amethyst is actually just a variety of quartz? Similar to Citrine, Amethyst is a silicon dioxide and the color is given due to iron inclusions. Amethyst is rarely found in crystals longer than 30cm, which explains how come although it is one of the most common semi-precious gems, it can quickly become very expensive to purchase.

Ametrine is a popular and relatively expensive quartz crystal that combines citrine and amethyst to form a single crystal.
